What she felt
I Can Dance expresses the awakening of a vital energy that sets itself free and begins to move. The blue tones represent an inner river that for a long time remained in apparent stillness.
“Today, my inner river asks it of me”, those waters grow restless, they stir and demand movement. What was held back begins to flow and turns into impulse, desire and a need for expression. The reds, oranges and yellows burst in with the passion and energy of that liberation, while the arc of colors expands like a force that no longer accepts being annulled.
The great curve that runs across the work is born of those inner waters that no longer wish to remain still. Its movement grows, turns and rises until it symbolically becomes dance. I Can Dance expresses the moment in which what was held back recovers its movement: the woman allows herself to laugh, to choose, to disobey old bonds and to inhabit herself once more from freedom. She no longer needs to remain still in order to meet other people's expectations: she recognizes herself in her own rhythm and chooses to live, because she is better off loose than tied down.
Meaning
I Can Dance
Today, my inner river asks it of me.
I am “the madwoman”…
who this time,
is not going to stay still,
the movements and passion
with strength and energy
they shout freedom
they enter my world,
no one else is going to annul them,
I choose to be a “ditzy fool” with no brakes
because that is my way of acting
with out-of-place bursts of laughter
in a rainbow
that dares to wear colors,
to revive that “wild one”
who was not born to please them,
she dances and laughs because she is better off…
Let go, you tied-up thing!
