Scarecrow

Scarecrow

I built him with a trunk and two crossed sticks,

I planted the limbs
with hammer blows,
all that was missing was the smell of sowing
so I asked my uncle for his straw hat.
Borrowing my grandfather's jacket
guaranteed the harvest
and hid the holes.
The little birds are frightened by the movement

of the wind.
They don't know,
and I won't tell them...
that it isn't a dangerous statue,
and that down there beneath it,
are the tastiest vegetables.
