The Guardian of Illusions

The Guardian of Illusions

Little hole in the bitten cheese
where the Tooth Mouse eats his breakfast.
Today he felt drawn away,
and bright and early... off he ran
after a tooth, just fallen out.
On his way back,
he tucks it inside a cheese.
He doubles its holes
because a child's illusions
are treasures well looked after,
so they won't fall asleep
before ever having woken.
