Forbidden Cataracts
In the book: Trilogy; "I arrive in I, two, 3"

Veiled Cataracts
I didn't know them.
They knew I would avoid them.
Stealthily they paid for the pre-trip
and plotted out the stay,
disguising the increase as holiday spending.
They made certain that both cavities
had lodging available.
Opacity and distortion in the gaze
like drizzle at daybreak.
The left one was obliging
and at once offered up its lens
never suspecting that, for decades,
a curtain would fall to cloud reality.
Like good neighbors
they colluded in a clandestine veil
and with each other's help endured
the undeniable weight of fate.
They shared that secret
not knowing that the passing of time would give them away.
The iris is a map of freedom,
the threads of blood keep watch over the sky-blue pupils
and the eyelids announce
that upon the corneas... a flood is drawing near.
