Wedding of Scales

Wedding of Scales

Sunset of foam and salt.
The mermaid conquers the sailor...
she seduces him.
Her caresses embrace the corals...
she makes him fall in love.
She dreams of seeing him again,
she sings on the shore,
she explores the surf,
she reclines upon the moon...
she kisses it.
Iridescent
sighs of turquoise
light up the sea.
At last she draws him in...
he smiles, bewitched.
With her long flowing hair
she traces out chords
and her cinched waist
engraves silvery scales.
Garlands of coralline
and starfish

escort the sailor

to his magical bridal wedding.
The barefoot jellyfish
traces of sand flicker,
the pearled carriage passes by
opening blue horizons.
It bears them away...
until they are lost
beyond the reefs.
