What she felt
"Window to the World" portrays the instant in which a young woman, newly married, crosses the threshold into an unknown life. The white evokes the bridal veil and coexists with forms, colors and pathways that spread out like roads still to be travelled: bonds, decisions, motherhood and transformation.
Without knowing it, that young woman was already carrying a new life in gestation. Decades later, while painting this experience from memory, a V spontaneously emerges among the brushstrokes, a shape the artist discovers only upon stepping back from the work. Her first association is Valeria, the name she had imagined for that first child before knowing it would be a boy.
The V thus becomes an involuntary trace of what was present before it was conscious: two lines converge at a vertex and open up again, like life before a new beginning.
The work links memory and present, making an intimate revelation visible: what I did not yet know about my life had already begun to take shape.
A weave of pathways, curves and forks expresses the instant before a decision capable of changing the course of a life. The strokes advance, intersect and seem to seek a way out among zones of color that alternate between intensity, uncertainty and desire.
The movement of the work contains a contradiction: it advances but at the same time longs to be stopped. A single word, "yes," thus becomes a symbolic limit, a word about to be spoken while, from some inner place, a voice is born asking for another possibility.
The whites, pinks, yellows, greens and light blues contrast with darker edges and strokes, suggesting the tension between what is expected and what is felt, between the path already laid out and the one that might still be chosen.
